Hello, may name is Shelley Skas. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. I received my master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Lewis University. I hold a type 73 certification in school counseling, where I counseled teenagers at an alternative high school after being expelled from school and provided counseling to them throughout their school day. I have over 10 years experience in pediatric and adolescent mental health. I also have five years experience working at Linden Oaks inpatient unit and their IOP program. In addition, I started working at the Healing Center in 2010. I really enjoy working with children and young adults.  I also provide family and group therapy, as well as provide parents skill set to manage the symptoms and behavioral they see at home. My specialties of expertise include Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism, self-injury, trauma, anxiety, Asperger’s and Pervasive Developmental Disorders, social skills, stress management, and depression. Methods of my practice include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT) Reality Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy. I enjoy working with kids and young adults, who are struggling at home, school, or with the peers.  I want to make each session memorable, so they like it and don’t realize that their receiving therapy, while learning new skills out of it. I make it fun, so kids want to come back, because they had a good session. I enjoy working with children and young adults I’m a strong believer that one cannot change behavior unless they continue to work on it daily. By applying these skills learned through therapy sessions, you can reach their potential goals.

 With anxiety kids can really benefit from cognitive behavioral therapy with anxiety learning the base core foundation of how they think and how to reframe their thinking and help for anxiety. Having that proception reasoning ability to work through your thoughts, rather than acting out  is huge.
